Need hints on raising juniors?

  1. Getting children to do chores is an early taste of responsibility and an important part in growing as an individual. Work with your partner to make this a fun activity for all the family. Cooking, shopping, gardening and caring for pets all make good activities.
  2. Teach them to map read and plan outings and journeys - they can even do the navigating.
  3. Make family outings to the supermarket into fun and learning activities. Tear the list in half and give some challenges to find things. Take a calculator and let them tot up the bill as you go.
  4. As a couple you need to have some grown up areas where you can escape and find time to spend alone. Agree areas which are toy free zones and make sure your children understand that mummy and daddy need time together.
  5. Homework is now given from primary school age. Both parents may have different skills that they can offer to a child and passion for subjects that can ignite real enthusiasm. Ask your partner what they feel their strength is and encourage them to interact with your child.
