Relationship Civil Dissolution Advice
The Civil Partnership Act 2004 came into force on 5 December 2005. For the first time it allowed same-sex couples to obtain legal recognition of their relationship. Unfortunately, in much the same way as marriages there will be some civil partnerships that fail. Dissolution is the term used to describe the termination of a civil partnership. It is always a good idea to seek legal advice from a divorce lawyer if you intend to go through with dissolution.
- Dissolution is similar to divorce
- In order to get dissolution you must have been in a civil partnership for more than one year
- You must complete a form called a 'Petition' stating the reasons for applying
- If there are any children involved you should complete a 'Statement of Arrangements' which details the plans for the children after the dissolution
